Ron finds his thrills on Chapel Hill. We decided to try a GSM showdown, pitting an Old World wine against a New World wine. GSM is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre, the typical base for the great wines from Chateauneuf-de-Pape (one of Bruce’s favs).

In the ring tonight:
The Parson 2019 by Chapel Hill – from McLaren Vale, South Australia – CAD $21.90
This is a blend of: Grenache 54 %, Shiraz 40 %, Mourvèdre 6 %
Domaine des Genêts 2018 by Delas – Vacqueyras appelation in France – CAD $31.75
The Vacqueyras is a blend of: Syrah 60 %, Grenache 35 %, Mourvèdre 5 %

Perhaps it wasn’t a fair fight considering the price difference – though they both earned praises.
Final score:
The Parson 7.5 and Domaine des Genêts 8.0 BUT with a $10 price difference, Ron gave the value nod to Chapel Hill (we had to edit out him saying how much he loved it at least four times).
Tip: don’t forget to decant your mid-range wines for a good 20 minutes. You may think that at a lower price point it isn’t needed, but we discovered that The Parson in particular benefited from it a lot.
